Our Program History

Lacrosse in Oldham County

  • 2004

2004 was the high school boys lacrosse team in Oldham County. 13 Players from South Oldham / Oldham County / North Oldham high schools combined to create one Oldham County team. The team wore navy and silver and called themselves the Silverhawks, named after an Iroquois Tribe in the Oneida Indian Nation. The teams split in 2010 and created the 3 separate South / OC / North High School teams we have today.

  • 2010

2010 Brummal and Jim Murphy started the middle school boys program which played as a combined Oldham County team until 2012 when the teams split into the two teams, North Oldham and South Oldham Lacrosse.

  • 2012

2012 South Oldham Lacrosse had its first 3/4 boy’s team which was coached by current High School coach Joe Richie and had current high school sophomore and junior players who are still playing with coach Richie today.

  • 2016

2016 South Oldham Lacrosse program was recognized by US Lacrosse for its commitment to growing the game and administrative policies and was awarded the First Stick Grant. The grant of 30 complete sets of boys equipment allows us to introduce the game of Lacrosse to players without the burden of purchasing new equipment.

2016 was all a big year on the field when the 7/8 boys won the city championship for the first time and we fielded our first Middle School girls team.

  • 2017

2017 the Boys played in the KLA championship at every age and the girls were KLA Semifinalists.

  • 2018

2018 we introduced After School Lacrosse where 40 boys and girls were introduced to the game of Lacrosse at their elementary school.

  • 2020

2020 South Oldham Lacrosse changed their name to Oldham Lacrosse Club to represent the county as a whole. Keeping in line with the original name of the Silverhawks from 2004, OLC is now called the Railhawks. OLC always changed their colors to turquoise and red.

2020 Oldham Lacrosse Club offered fall ball lacrosse to 3rd-8th grade girls with over 50 girls participating from all three Oldham middle schools and eight elementary schools.

  • 2021

2021 OLC had its first 3/4th girls teams.

2021 OLC with South Oldham High School hosted a girls 3/4th and 5/6th grade girls league which included over 12 teams in the surrounding Louisville area.

In 2012 there were 42 boys in grades 3-8 playing in the South Oldham Lacrosse program. Today the program has grown to have 125 kids enrolled in our programs. This growth would not be possible without the help of our many parents who volunteer as coaches, team parents, and help the program with fundraising and administrative functions. We would also like to thank our many sponsors.
